It was April of 2019 when the Notorious One Dezmond Cole made his debut in VPW alongside Lawrence Spiral in a tag team triple threat match. Cole would have his hand raised, which would be the beginning of the path to glory.

Or would it?

With a spotty win/loss record in the tag team Total Kontrol, he would get his first chance at championship glory against then New York State Champion Eric James at the 2019 Gold Rush Rumble.

In only his second singles contest in VPW, Cole failed to secure the win but he did secure the respect of James and the VPW locker room.

Deep down inside, Cole knew he would get another chance to become champion.

Now we go back to February of 2014. Eric James, then known as EJ Risk, was in the middle of a heated rivalry with Kai Katana. In the crowd that night was a young Dezmond Cole, a fan of VPW. It was that night where Eric James would finally overcome his rival and become New York State Champion for the first time in his career.

At VPW 150: Blood Sweat and 16 Years anniversary show, it would be Dezmond Cole challenging Eric James for the second time in his career on the biggest night of Victory Pro Wrestling in front of one of the largest crowds since the post-COVID era began.

It would be Cole to reminisce about how eight years earlier, he would watch Eric James become champion, how he was not ready at the 2019 Gold Rush Rumble, but that VPW 150 would be the stage for him to finally achieve greatness.

Eric James would stand in his way, not just as the champion but as the workhorse of Victory Pro Wrestling. For over 14 minutes, James and Cole would go back and forth until finally, history would be made and Dezmond Cole would become the 13th competitor to hold the VPW New York State Championship.

At VPW’s Power Grab, Cole will defend the New York State Championship… but against who? VPW Management has been fielding calls from competitors all wanting a shot at Cole’s championship and the opportunity to share a place in history with other former New York State championship such as Eric James, Mister Tibbs, Ricky Reyes, and VSK.

Dezmond Cole will have an uphill battle ahead of him. With a target on his back, it will be interesting to see who will be given the opportunity and if Cole can handle the pressure of being champion.
