It was 2019. Eric James was riding high as not only the VPW New York State Champion but as part of the group known as The Influence.
On the other side of the spectrum, Ryan Galeone was a fan favorite who was rapidly working his way up the rankings in Victory Pro Wrestling.
The match was made and Galeone was set to clash with James for the New York State Championship. James had told his Influence cohorts that he did not require their assistance as he was confident he would vanquish Galeone on his own.
However Influence member and Victory Pro Wrestling Commissioner Kevin Fulton lacked the confidence that James had in himself and came ringside and assisted the champion, albeit against his wishes.
After that match, and in the months to come, Eric James realizing his associates did not have the faith in him that he had in himself, he left the group behind and set out on his own to prove to them and the VPW Faithful that he didn’t need anyone else to be a successful fighting champion.
Fast forward to 2021. Galeone feels that his efforts in VPW were being overlooked and over shadowed by undeserving contenders and new competitors. Galeone had grown bitter with an ugly mean streak.
At VPW 144: The Gold Rush Rumble in August, after his match with Eric James, Galeone became unhinged.
Attacking James after bell maliciously with a chair and stealing the New York State championship belt from James and sidelining him for VPW 145: Never Forget September 11th.
This bring us to Oct 9, where Eric James aims for vengeance while Ryan Galeone seeks validation when they have The Show Down In St. James.
