dezmond cole – VICTORY PRO WRESTLING https://www.victoryprowrestling.com vic•to•ry - overcoming of an enemy or success in a struggle Thu, 25 Aug 2022 06:31:31 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=7.0.2 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/2012/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/cropped-VPW-2023-32x32.png dezmond cole – VICTORY PRO WRESTLING https://www.victoryprowrestling.com 32 32 Collins looks to make history at the Showdown in St James as he challenged Cole for the New York State Championship September 10 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/collins-looks-to-make-history-at-the-showdown-in-st-james-as-he-challenged-cole-for-the-new-york-state-championship-september-10/ Thu, 25 Aug 2022 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/?p=9624 At VPW 153 Homecoming Volume 2, Johnny “Pretty Boy” Collins put Dezmond Cole on notice by announcing that he would be focusing on the New York State Championship at VPW 155 The Showdown in St James.

Johnny Collins is one of the best in Victory Pro Wrestling today. He has made himself one of the pillars in the company.   While he recently lost the Victory Pro Wrestling Championship to Jack Tomlinson at Under Pressure in June of this year, Collins would have a reign of terror beating anyone who tried to take the Victory Pro Wrestling Championship from him, with some help of course from the Even Stevens.

“Da Big Boofa” Dezmond Cole becamse VPW New York State Champion at VPW 153: Blood Sweat & 16 Years. Since then, Cole would go on to retain his title against Filipinot Grigio, Tony Vincita, and most notably, Dominck Denaro. Cole has proven to the VPW faithful that he is a worthy champion. Since coming back from injury this year, he continues to impress with every performance in the ring, and September should be no different.

So what sparked Collins focusing on Cole?  In July, Collins teamed up with Steve Somerset and honorary “Pretty Likeable” member Ryan Galeone to take on the team of Bam Sullivan, Kenny Garcia, and Mouse. Pretty Likeable would end up picking up the victory in a very physical match. After the match, Collins made his intentions known.

Collins looks to become only the sixth wrestler behind Mister Tibbs, Eric James, VSK, Jay Delta, and Ricky Reyes to become a Victory Pro Wrestling Triple Crown Winner.  Collins called out Dezmond Cole and told him he wanted to “teach him how to be a champion.”

Dezmond Cole is an incredibly talented competitor and could beat anyone put in front of him, but there is a difference with Johnny Collins. Not only will Cole have to contend with Johnny Collins, but he will also have to keep eyes on in the back of his head with “Pretty Likeable” not far behind.

Collins on the other hand seemingly already has an advantage in this match. Not only is he a former Victory Pro Wrestling Champion, but he also is seeking to be a part of history. Collins also has a couple of cards up his sleeves. Those cards wear sweater vest and have helped Collins win time, and time, again.

Some might say that Johnny Collins reign as Victory Pro Wrestling Champion wouldn’t have been as long as it was had it not been for the Even Stevens. One thing we know for sure is that in September at “The Showdown in St. James,” something will have to give. Will we see Dezmond Cole retain his VPW New York State Championship, or will we see Johnny Collins do whatever it takes to become the new VPW New York State Champion and cement his name in the Victory Pro Wrestling history books?

ICYMI: Results from VPW 152: Under Pressure June 11, 2022 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/icymi-results-from-vpw-152-under-pressure-june-11-2022/ Sun, 12 Jun 2022 19:00:06 +0000 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/?p=9386 Victory Pro Wrestling returned to the Sports Arena in St. James, NY for a jam packed, Under Pressure. The show was headlined by a Victory Pro Wrestling Championship match between “Pretty Boy” Johnny Collins, and challenger, Jack Tomlinson.

VPW Commissioner Kevin Fulton, along with Assistant to the VPW Commissioner James Sullivan, started the show off. Fulton and Sullivan are greeted by a lot of boos. Fulton says that the show will be tremendous and reiterates that if the Even Stevens lose their VPW Tag Team Championship match, they will be banned from ringside in the main event.

ERIC JAMES vs. DAN BARRY

Dan Barry made his way out to the ring first, followed by Eric James. James sings happy birthday to two fans who made their way out to VPW tonight. The match itself starts off with a handshake between the two men, followed by a tie-up.

The two men then had a feeling out process of sorts, followed by a taunt off. The fans were heavily behind both men, and the referee, Steven. The match then started to heat up when James spilt to the outside. Dan Barry would hit James with a suicide dive, but James made his way back to his feet and hit Barry with a flip of his own over the top rope.

The two then move to the outside and fight amongst the fans. Barry takes control of the match for the time being. Barry, from the top rope, then hit a kick to the head of James who was positioned on the guard rail.

Barry throws James back into the ring and remains in control. James tries to fight back time-and-time again but to no avail. Finally, James is able to gain the momentum he needs to get back into the match. James hits a big tiger bomb on Barry for a two-count.

Eric James attempts to go high risk, but Barry counters with a superplex from the top. Barry then makes his way to the top, but James counters this time, and hits an elbow drop of his own for a two-count. After more back and forth, Dan Barry was able to hit a swanton bomb from the top rope and pin James for the three-count.

WINNER: DAN BARRY

MEGAN MASON vs. VPW OFFICIAL

Megan Mason makes her way out to the ring first. She is followed by a VPW official. The official says that Valentina couldn’t make it to the show tonight, and Mason was pissed. Mason wants a fight and the official calls for someone who can make it happen. Nobody answers the challenge.

Mason challenges the VPW official to a match, he finally accepts. The match starts with the official stretching and trying to avoid Mason. Mason chases the official around and finally catches up. She beats him up and quickly takes control of the match. Mason picks up the win quickly and is looking ahead to facing Valentina Vasquez.

WINNER: MEGAN MASON

DANTE DRAGO vs. BROTHER GREATNESS

Dante Drago makes his way out to the ring first. He is followed by Brother Greatness who has the crowd behind him. Dante sneakily tries to roll up Brother Greatness to start the match, Greatness kicks out at two. Brother Greatness gets Dante Drago to testify. This ends with Drago trying to sucker punch Brother Greatness.

Brother Greatness counters the move and uses his quickness to evade Dante. After some offense by Brother Greatness, Dante pretends to be injured to gain control of the match. Brother Greatness fights back time-and-time again, but to no avail.

However, Brother Greatness is finally able to fight back into the match and takes the fight back to Drago. Brother Greatness hits a high-risk move and sends Drago to the outside. Silk E. Smooth makes his way out to the ring to distract Brother Greatness. This leads to Drago rolling up Brother Greatness and pinning him to gain the victory.

WINNERS: DANTE DRAGO

After the match, Adam Cain and Silk E. Smooth attack Brother Greatness from behind and hit him with an assisted piledriver. Smooth knocks Brother Greatness out with his cane, and Cain hits him over the back with a chair. Brother Greatness gets on the mic as the two men leave, and challenges Cain to a hardcore match next month at Homecoming.

THE DOCTOR’S OFFICE

Dr. Cool accompanied by Pat Fitzpatrick make their way out to the ring next. They bring out Mike Anthony who is going to be a guest on their talk show, “The Doctors Office.” Anthony comes out and is fuming. He says he’s annoyed that he lost the King of NY match two shows back and tells the crowd he’s not crazy.

Anthony says he wants real competition. Francis Kip Stevens, Phil Cardigan, and Filipinot Grigio make their way down to the ring. They charge the ring which sends the heels packing.

PHIL CARDIGAN, FRANCIS KIP STEVENS, FILIPINOT GRIGIO vs. DR. COOL, PAT FITZPATRICK, MIKE ANTHONY

Grigio and Anthony start out the match together. Grigio quickly takes out Anthony with a running head scissors move. Cardigan and Dr. Cool tag in for their respective teams. Phil Cardigan goes for a few quick pins, but to no avail. Cardigan tags back in Grigio and the two men beat up on Dr. Cool.

Grigio then quickly tags in Cardigan. Dr. Cool quickly takes out Cardigan and tags in Mike Anthony. Cardigan goes for a big move, but Fitzpatrick and Dr. Cool distract him and beat him up on the outside. Dr. Cool tags in for his team as they continue to remain in control of Cardigan.

Dr. Cool tags in Pat Fitzpatrick and they take turns beating up Cardigan. Fitzpatrick takes Cardigan’s coffee mug and drinks some of it. Cardigan kicks Fitzpatrick in the head and is able to tag in Kip. Kip comes in hot and takes the fight to Fitzpatrick.

Kip takes out all three members of the other team and comes in the match hot and ready to go. Kip stuns Dr. Cool, and Mike Anthony. He then hits a big move on Fitzpatrick before going for the pinfall. The pin gets broken up by Dr. Cool and Mike Anthony.

Grigio accidentally knocks Kip out with Mike Anthony’s legs, while Anthony is going for a helicopter spin. Fitzpatrick is able to pin Kip for the three-count.

WINNER: DR. COOL, PAT FITZPATRICK, AND MIKE ANTHONY

VPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
CHAMPIONS EVEN STEVENS (w. Johnny Collins) vs. ???

Even Stevens make their way out to the ring first. Azure complains that there is a conspiracy against them. Somerset says to give them the best that they could find, and the result will remain the same.

The Shook Crew returned to Victory Pro Wrestling and they made their way out to the ring to a massive ovation. Bobby Orlando even hugged Azure’s dad.

Bryce Donovan started off the match with Somerset in his first match in VPW since his lung collapsed. Somerset calls for a handshake with Bryce, and Bryce accepts. Somerset tries to sucker punch him, but Bryce counters and takes the fight to Somerset early.

Azure tags in and Bryce continues taking the fight to both Stevens. He takes out both men with a double clothesline. Bryce tags in Orlando as Orlando continues remaining in control of the match. The match seemed to be firmly going in the Shook Crew’s favor.

Bobby Orlando made his way to the top rope, but Johnny Collins comes on the apron and distracts Orlando. The Even Stevens regained momentum and control of the match. Orlando gets beaten up for a while in the match, but he is able to tag in Donovan.

Donovan comes in hot and takes both members of the Even Stevens out. He calls for a big move, but Collins once again distracts the Shook Crew. Somerset hits Donovan with a big move for a two-count. Collins goes to hand Somerset the VPW Tag Team Championship belt, but the referee catches him.

Collins gets ejected from the match. After more back-and-forth action between the two teams, Orlando and Donovan hit a big move on Azure. Shook Crew hit the Even Steven’s finisher followed by their own for the three-count and the victory to become new VPW Tag Team Champions.

WINNER: AND NEW VPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS, SHOOK CREW

VPW NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIP:

Cole fights back and unloads punches on Vincita. Cole follows that up with a big kick and on Vincita for a two-count. Vincita fights back into the match and calls for the finish. He hits a big move on Cole for a two-count. Cole quickly fights back and hits his finisher to pick up the three-count.

WINNER: AND STILL VPW NYS CHAMPION, DEZMOND COLE

After the match, Cole says it’s his great grandparents 62nd Wedding Anniversary. He thanks the crowd and says he’ll see the top contender for his New York State Championship, Dominick Denaro, next month at Homecoming.

KAIDE LOTHBROOK vs. ALVIN ALVAREZ

It’s announced that if Kaide loses this match, he’ll be indefinitely suspended.

Alvarez makes his way out to the ring first, followed by Kaide. The two men start brawling as soon as the bell rings. The two then move to the outside as Kaide continues to take the fight to Alvarez.

Alvarez is able to quickly fight back into it and regain control when the match makes its way back into the ring. Alvarez hits two splashes on Kaide in the corner for a two-count. Alvarez bit Kaide’s fingers and continued to remain in control.

Kaide fights back and hits Alvarez with a knee to the face, followed by a lariat. Kaide then made his way to the top rope and hit a clothesline on Alvarez from the top. Kaide charges at Alvarez who’s in the corner of the ring, but Alvarez moved and regained momentum in the match.

Alvarez calls for his finisher, but that gets reversed by Kaide. Kaide hits a chokeslam for a two-count. The referee of the match got knocked out and Commissioner Fulton yells for his assistant James Sullivan to get down to the ring. Alvarez was able to roll up Kaide for a three-count, when the Assistant to the VPW Commissioner fast counted the pin.

WINNER: ALVIN ALVAREZ

After the match, Kaide is pissed. He takes out the VPW official as well as Alvarez. Kaide has a stare down with the commissioner who’s standing at the top of the entrance way. Kaide leaves under his own power. He charges back at the ring to hit one more stunner on Alvarez before leaving for good this time.

VPW CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
CHAMPION JOHNNY COLLINS vs JACK TOMLINSON

Jack Tomlinson makes his way out to the ring first, followed by the champion, Johnny Collins. Collins gives the announcer a special introduction to read for him. The match starts with trash talking between the two men followed by Tomlinson quickly taking the fight to Collins.

Collins tries to leave in the early stages of this match, but Tomlinson stops him and beats him up on the outside of the ring. Tomlinson hits a suplex on Collins, dropping him on the apron, before sending him back inside the ring.

Tomlinson goes for a subscriber stomp early on, but Collins is able to move. Tomlinson remains in control as he beats up on Collins a little bit more. However, Collins is able to send Tomlinson’s arm into the ring post and gain momentum and gain control of the match.

Tomlinson tries to fight back, hitting a springboard clothesline on Collins for a two-count. Collins attacks Tomlinson’s arm again, to keep momentum. Tomlinson hits a subscriber stomp on Collins out of nowhere, but Collins is able to roll out of the ring to the apron.

Tomlinson follows but gets hit with a spear by Collins on the ring apron. Tomlinson is able to fight back in it and hit a big move on Collins for a two-count. Collins makes his way to the top, but Tomlinson catches him and slams him down on the mat. Even Stevens get involved and try to help Collins retain his VPW Championship.

However, the new VPW Tag Team Champions, the Shook Crew make their way out to the ring and brawl with the Stevens. While all this is happening, Collins doesn’t realize Tomlinson is standing up right behind him. Tomlinson hits a kick to the mid-section of Collins and follows that up with a subscriber stomp to becoming the new VPW Champion.

Tony Vincita answers the call to Dezmond Cole’s open challenge for the New York State Championship at VPW’s Under Pressure June 11 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/tony-vincita-answers-the-call-to-dezmond-coles-open-challenge-for-the-new-york-state-championship-at-vpws-under-pressure-june-11/ Tue, 31 May 2022 13:00:00 +0000 https://victoryprowrestling.com.thedeadend.net/2012/?p=9324 At VPW’s Power Grab, Dominick Denaro became the top contender to the New York State Championship, but that match won’t happen until July.

This did not sit well for the New York State Champion Dezmond Cole, who issued a challenge to anyone, anywhere, to meet him at VPW’s Under Pressure, Saturday June 11, in St James.

https://twitter.com/ThaReal_DC/status/1526612724784025601?s=20&t=2sA4T0OuPmZIYiXc6efMjA

With dozens of competitors chiming in online, sending DMs and emails, and calling VPW Management, one stood over all: Tony Vincita.

VPW’s Blood Sweat and 8 years is when Vincita made his debut. The main event featured The Church of Tibbs, Mister Tibbs and Dorian Graves, to meet VSK and the Phenomenal AJ Styles, but the show was also remembered as the New Jersey Invasion when the Down Boyz, Vincita and his cousin Steve Gibki, assaulted then VPW Tag Team Champions Da Hou$e Party.

It was very clear the Down Boyz wanted gold and eventually they would claim the VPW Tag Team Championships. They would hold the titles twice for a combined 862 days, but it would be Gibki that would add to his legacy by holding the New York State Championship. Gibki left his cousin behind as he focused on his singles career, with Vincita returning once in the last five years.

But he did not sit back doing nothing. Vincita trained, dominated the New Jersey circuit, and was featured on multiple occasions on AEW Dynamite and AEW Dark. Vincita went to train with QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes at the Nightmare Factory in Atlanta, and now… eight years after he invaded VPW the first time… Vincita returns with a thirst for championship gold.

Dezmond Cole can’t wait until July to meet Dominick Denaro, issues open challenge for New York State Championship at Under Pressure June 11 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/dezmond-cole-cant-wait-until-july-to-meet-dominick-denaro-issues-open-challenge-for-new-york-state-championship-at-under-pressure-june-11/ Mon, 23 May 2022 03:25:02 +0000 https://victoryprowrestling.com.thedeadend.net/2012/?p=9235 When the Notorious Dezmond Cole debuted in Victory Pro Wrestling, he impressed the fans as well as the VPW Management team.

“He really has something here.”

“Wow, that was amazing!”

“This kid is going to be big some day.”

Getting a chance to meet some of VPW’s top stars, Cole was overwhelmed. He used to come to Victory Pro Wrestling shows as a fan, both at the Deer Park Community Center and the VFW Post in Centereach.

Cole looked up to Eric James, back then he was known as EJ Risk, and some of the classic stars of VPW. He followed along with everyone else the stories and matches featuring Conflux, Ricky Reyes, VSK, and more.

To know that Cole was in the ring with some of the talents he looked up to was mindblowing. And that he was rising to the top fast? Phenomenal.

Then… COVID hit. The world stopped. You know the story.

But with this break from sports in New York, Cole ventured out. Underground shows, travelling to other states, and getting the opportunity to continue to build his craft, Dezmond Cole shed the “Notorious” name from his identity and became “Da Big Boofa.”

It was Da Big Boofa that skyrocketed when wrestling returned to Southern New York in the first show back since COVID struck. In front of a packed Sports Arena, Cole started to shine once again.

Tragedy struck when he injured his knee. The initial speculation was not too positive, but Cole kept his head up and hoped for the best. The doctor returned, advised Cole he would be out of action, but that Cole would not need surgury.

What could potentially kept him out from wrestling for a year turned into three months. Dezmond Cole was back, and he was on fire once again.

An intense and personal lumberjack match featured Cole picking up the win against Percy Ryan. Later that night he decided he was not going to wait. Cole challenged Eric James for the New York State Championship.

At Blood Sweat and 16 Years, he took his rightful place as New York State Champion, along VPW legends like Mister Tibbs, Eric James, and VSK.

At Power Grab, Dominick Denaro became the number one contender for the New York State championship in an impressive debut, but that match will not take place until Homecoming: Volume 2 in July.

Cole released a video, calling out anyone in the locker room. No, anywhere in or out of VPW, Cole called everyone out.
