Victory Pro Wrestling crossed state lines for the first time to perform in Portland Connecticut and the crowd in attendance was ready for all the action.

VPW owner John Radioo welcomed the fans to the Riverfront Rumble and introduced them to the coordinator for A Fight for Cancer, Portland CT, Naji Chester-Payne.

Chester-Payne talked about why he put this event together with VPW, to help raise awareness and fight cancer after losing his mother earlier in the year. He then asked for a moment of silence to honor those affected by cancer.

Musical guests Vinyl Asylum then kicked the show off with a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner before our first contest.

Brother Greatness def. El Jhonny Santos via DQ

  • Mike Anthony backed off and headed towards the locker room, telling Jack who was pleading with him, “In your dreams.”
  • Tomlinson then offered Anthony a future VPW Championship match if they teamed up right then and there

Mike Anthony & Jack Tomlinson def. Sebastian and Jey Mesias

  • Sebastian and Mesias worked together when they could, while Tomlinson and Anthony were rough to watch as a tag team
  • Despite their animosity, they were able to work together
  • After Tomlinson hit the Subscriber Stomp, Mike Anthony threw him out of the ring before making the cover
  • After the match, Anthony and Tomlinson battled all over Riverside Park before Tomlinson finally forced Anthony to retreat to the locker room area

VPW Women’s Champion Valentina Vasquez def. Soraya to retain

  • The psychotic Soraya made her VPW debut against the champion and went right to work
  • Vasquez was able to come back after Soraya showed signs of frustration before connecting with a neckbreaker to pick up the win

Dan Barry def. Johnny Collins via DQ

  • The Even Stevens attacked Barry shortly after the match got started, calling for the disqualification
  • The three-on-one was enough for the School of Cool to come out and make the save.
  • Barry grabbed the mic, called out Pretty Likeable, who said… no. So Barry rallied the troops and took after Collins and the Stevens anyway

School of Cool and Dan Barry def. Pretty Likeable

  • This was a wild six man tag team match that could have gone either way
  • The angry Stevens showed why after four years they are still one of the top teams in VPW
  • Despite their efforts, Pretty Likeable was unable to pick up the win

VPW Tag Team Champion Bryce Donovan came to the ring and issued an open challenge for the CAP Championship after taunting the fans in attendance.

CAP Champion Bryce Donovan def. Sebastian in less than 60 seconds

Feeling good, Donovan issued ANOTHER challenge, this one answered by Dan Barry. Donovan tried to back out of it until Barry went after him to start the match.

  • Barry lead a strong offense to start the match
  • The fight spilled to the outside, with some of the fans connecting with some chops
  • Back in the ring, Donovan was able to regain control and pick up the win

After he beat Barry, Donovan decided to flip the script and challenge Jack Tomlinson for the Victory Pro Wrestling Championship, but understood if Jack was scared. Jack came out, was not scared, and accepted the challenge.

VPW Champion Jack Tomlinson def. Bryce Donovan to retain

  • The match was filled with flurries of offense by both competitors.
  • Donovan was able to gain control and looked to add the VPW Championship to his belt collection
  • Tomlinson was able to regain control to pick up the win

Some of the stars that will be on hand include the number one contenders to the VPW Tag Team Championships Dr Cool Jay Klang and Pat Fitz Patrick, The School of Cool.  Coming off a huge victory from last month’s Homecoming event is Dan Barry, as is his opponent from July, Mike Anthony; they will both be in action.

Kenny Garcia, “The Serpent on the Mount” returns to Victory Pro Wrestling and the current Victory Pro Wrestling Women’s Champion Valentina Vasquez will be in action.

And in the main event, it’s the “One Man Boy Band” Eric James, a member of the prestigious Triple Crown Club, taking on one half of the Victory Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champions Bryce Donovan.

Riverfront Rumble is a part of A Fight Against Cancer, Portland, CT, who is raising money for the American Cancer Society.  The event’s organizer, Naji Chester-Payne, recently lost his mother to cancer.  Chester-Payne is the Portland town laureate and has worked with local businesses to raise money for this cause and to provide a fun day for Portland and its neighbors.

Victory Pro Wrestling is no stranger to fundraising.  VPW has raised money for numerous booster clubs and organizations, most recently with the Knights of Columbus of Suffolk County at February’s Before the Storm, #AutumnStrong in March’s Blood Sweat and 16 Years Anniversary Show, and this September VPW will be raising money for the AMVETS post in Ronkonkoma.

The Riverfront Rumble is free to attend, with the gate opening at 11am and the show starting at 12pm.  Ring side seats will be available for a small donation of just $5.  In addition to all the action, local musical guests Vinyl Asylum will be performing, kicking the show off with a performance of the national anthem.

The Rise and Fall of Pretty Likeable? https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/the-rise-and-fall-of-pretty-likeable/ Mon, 20 Jun 2022 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.victoryprowrestling.com/?p=9469 Since November of 2021, the faction of Pretty Likeable – Johnny “Pretty Boy” Collins and the Even Stevens, Steve Somerset and Stephen Azure – has been running things at Victory Pro Wrestling.

Victory Pro Wrestling presented Disorderly Conduct. This was the beginning of the championship reigns for Pretty Likeable. The Stevens and Collins would win all the gold that night in their respective matches.

First, the Even Stevens became Victory Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champions by beating the Absolute Brand – Alvin Alvarez and the Giant Andre.  Then in the main event, Collins became the Victory Pro Wrestling Champion by beating Coach Mammone.

At VPW Devastation the next month, Collins would successfully defend his Victory Pro Wrestling Championship over Coach Mammone, where with help from the Even Stevens, Collins would go on to retire Mammone in the process. The Stevens would also successfully defend their titles over the former champions, The Absolute Brand.

The reigns between the Even Stevens and Johnny Collins would be parallel. At VPW Before the Storm in February, Collins would defend the title against Mister Tibbs and have help from the Stevens. The Stevens would continue their reign as well, fending off The Coffee Lovers.

Through all of their title defenses, one thing remained constant. Johnny Collins needed the Even Stevens, and the Even Stevens needed Johnny Collins. Even in a no-disqualification match against Mister Tibbs at VPW 150: Blood Sweat and 16 Years, the Even Stevens would find a way to distract and help Collins defeat Mister Tibbs.

At VPW Power Grab in May, Even Stevens successfully defended their Victory Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championships over Security Inc by securing Malcom Moss with handcuffs, and Collins would beat Tomlinson by using cheating tactics courtesy of the Even Stevens.

However, after Collins defeated Tomlinson, Victory Pro Wrestling Commissioner Kevin Fulton was furious. Fulton stated that at VPW Power Grab if the Even Stevens didn’t successfully defend their Victory Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championships, they would be banned from ringside in the main event, where Collins would once again face Tomlinson.

At VPW Under Pressure, we would see how well Pretty Likeable did on their own. The Even Stevens took on a mystery team, which turned out to be the returning Shook Crew. Even with Collins trying to intervene, Shook Crew would end up becoming the new Victory Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champion by defeating the Stevens, which meant that the Even Stevens would be banned from the main event between Johnny Collins and Jack Tomlinson.

Let’s not take away from the main event.  Tomlinson and Collins had an incredible match. However, despite being barred from ringside the Even Stevens still tried to get involved. At first it looked like business as usual, with Azure distracting the referee and Somerset coming from the other side of the building.  This time, Tomlinson had backup and the numbers game was gone. Shook Crew made their way out to the ring to aid Tomlinson by beating the Stevens and dragging them to the back.

Jack Tomlinson would go on to defeat Johnny Collins for the Victory Pro Wrestling Championship.

From being at the top of the mountain of Victory Pro Wrestling to cheating to win all of their matches and keep their titles, to crashing and burning to the bottom once the playing field was leveled.

Is this the end of Pretty Likeable?

VPW Commissioner Kevin Fulton, along with Assistant to the VPW Commissioner James Sullivan, started the show off. Fulton and Sullivan are greeted by a lot of boos. Fulton says that the show will be tremendous and reiterates that if the Even Stevens lose their VPW Tag Team Championship match, they will be banned from ringside in the main event.

ERIC JAMES vs. DAN BARRY

Dan Barry made his way out to the ring first, followed by Eric James. James sings happy birthday to two fans who made their way out to VPW tonight. The match itself starts off with a handshake between the two men, followed by a tie-up.

The two men then had a feeling out process of sorts, followed by a taunt off. The fans were heavily behind both men, and the referee, Steven. The match then started to heat up when James spilt to the outside. Dan Barry would hit James with a suicide dive, but James made his way back to his feet and hit Barry with a flip of his own over the top rope.

The two then move to the outside and fight amongst the fans. Barry takes control of the match for the time being. Barry, from the top rope, then hit a kick to the head of James who was positioned on the guard rail.

Barry throws James back into the ring and remains in control. James tries to fight back time-and-time again but to no avail. Finally, James is able to gain the momentum he needs to get back into the match. James hits a big tiger bomb on Barry for a two-count.

Eric James attempts to go high risk, but Barry counters with a superplex from the top. Barry then makes his way to the top, but James counters this time, and hits an elbow drop of his own for a two-count. Megan Mason makes her way out to the ring first. She is followed by a VPW official. The official says that Valentina couldn’t make it to the show tonight, and Mason was pissed. Mason wants a fight and the official calls for someone who can make it happen. Nobody answers the challenge.

Mason challenges the VPW official to a match, he finally accepts. The match starts with the official stretching and trying to avoid Mason. Mason chases the official around and finally catches up. She beats him up and quickly takes control of the match. Mason picks up the win quickly and is looking ahead to facing Valentina Vasquez.

DANTE DRAGO vs. BROTHER GREATNESS

Dante Drago makes his way out to the ring first. He is followed by Brother Greatness who has the crowd behind him. Dante sneakily tries to roll up Brother Greatness to start the match, Greatness kicks out at two. Brother Greatness gets Dante Drago to testify. This ends with Drago trying to sucker punch Brother Greatness.

Brother Greatness counters the move and uses his quickness to evade Dante. After some offense by Brother Greatness, Dante pretends to be injured to gain control of the match. Brother Greatness fights back time-and-time again, but to no avail.

However, Brother Greatness is finally able to fight back into the match and takes the fight back to Drago. Brother Greatness hits a high-risk move and sends Drago to the outside. Silk E. Smooth makes his way out to the ring to distract Brother Greatness. This leads to Drago rolling up Brother Greatness and pinning him to gain the victory.

WINNERS: DANTE DRAGO

After the match, Adam Cain and Silk E. Smooth attack Brother Greatness from behind and hit him with an assisted piledriver. Smooth knocks Brother Greatness out with his cane, and Cain hits him over the back with a chair. Brother Greatness gets on the mic as the two men leave, and challenges Cain to a hardcore match next month at Homecoming.

THE DOCTOR’S OFFICE

Dr. Cool accompanied by Pat Fitzpatrick make their way out to the ring next. They bring out Mike Anthony who is going to be a guest on their talk show, “The Doctors Office.” Anthony comes out and is fuming. He says he’s annoyed that he lost the King of NY match two shows back and tells the crowd he’s not crazy.

Anthony says he wants real competition. Francis Kip Stevens, Phil Cardigan, and Filipinot Grigio make their way down to the ring. They charge the ring which sends the heels packing.

PHIL CARDIGAN, FRANCIS KIP STEVENS, FILIPINOT GRIGIO vs. DR. COOL, PAT FITZPATRICK, MIKE ANTHONY

Grigio and Anthony start out the match together. Grigio quickly takes out Anthony with a running head scissors move. Cardigan and Dr. Cool tag in for their respective teams. Phil Cardigan goes for a few quick pins, but to no avail. Cardigan tags back in Grigio and the two men beat up on Dr. Cool.

Grigio then quickly tags in Cardigan. Dr. Cool quickly takes out Cardigan and tags in Mike Anthony. Cardigan goes for a big move, but Fitzpatrick and Dr. Cool distract him and beat him up on the outside. Dr. Cool tags in for his team as they continue to remain in control of Cardigan.

Dr. Cool tags in Pat Fitzpatrick and they take turns beating up Cardigan. Fitzpatrick takes Cardigan’s coffee mug and drinks some of it. Cardigan kicks Fitzpatrick in the head and is able to tag in Kip. Kip comes in hot and takes the fight to Fitzpatrick.

Kip takes out all three members of the other team and comes in the match hot and ready to go. Kip stuns Dr. Cool, and Mike Anthony. He then hits a big move on Fitzpatrick before going for the pinfall. The pin gets broken up by Dr. Cool and Mike Anthony.

Grigio accidentally knocks Kip out with Mike Anthony’s legs, while Anthony is going for a helicopter spin. Fitzpatrick is able to pin Kip for the three-count.

WINNER: DR. COOL, PAT FITZPATRICK, AND MIKE ANTHONY

VPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
CHAMPIONS EVEN STEVENS (w. Johnny Collins) vs. ???

Even Stevens make their way out to the ring first. Azure complains that there is a conspiracy against them. Somerset says to give them the best that they could find, and the result will remain the same.

The Shook Crew returned to Victory Pro Wrestling and they made their way out to the ring to a massive ovation. Bobby Orlando even hugged Azure’s dad.

Bryce Donovan started off the match with Somerset in his first match in VPW since his lung collapsed. Somerset calls for a handshake with Bryce, and Bryce accepts. Somerset tries to sucker punch him, but Bryce counters and takes the fight to Somerset early.

Azure tags in and Bryce continues taking the fight to both Stevens. He takes out both men with a double clothesline. Bryce tags in Orlando as Orlando continues remaining in control of the match. The match seemed to be firmly going in the Shook Crew’s favor.

Bobby Orlando made his way to the top rope, but Johnny Collins comes on the apron and distracts Orlando. The Even Stevens regained momentum and control of the match. Orlando gets beaten up for a while in the match, but he is able to tag in Donovan.

Donovan comes in hot and takes both members of the Even Stevens out. He calls for a big move, but Collins once again distracts the Shook Crew. Somerset hits Donovan with a big move for a two-count. Collins goes to hand Somerset the VPW Tag Team Championship belt, but the referee catches him.

Collins gets ejected from the match. After more back-and-forth action between the two teams, Orlando and Donovan hit a big move on Azure. Shook Crew hit the Even Steven’s finisher followed by their own for the three-count and the victory to become new VPW Tag Team Champions.

Alvarez is able to quickly fight back into it and regain control when the match makes its way back into the ring. Alvarez hits two splashes on Kaide in the corner for a two-count. Alvarez bit Kaide’s fingers and continued to remain in control.

Kaide fights back and hits Alvarez with a knee to the face, followed by a lariat. Kaide then made his way to the top rope and hit a clothesline on Alvarez from the top. Kaide charges at Alvarez who’s in the corner of the ring, but Alvarez moved and regained momentum in the match.

Alvarez calls for his finisher, but that gets reversed by Kaide. Kaide hits a chokeslam for a two-count. The referee of the match got knocked out and Commissioner Fulton yells for his assistant James Sullivan to get down to the ring. Alvarez was able to roll up Kaide for a three-count, when the Assistant to the VPW Commissioner fast counted the pin.

WINNER: ALVIN ALVAREZ

After the match, Kaide is pissed. He takes out the VPW official as well as Alvarez. Kaide has a stare down with the commissioner who’s standing at the top of the entrance way.
