ICYMI: Anthony Gangone Survives Azure, Rex Lawless Strikes Again. Full results from Haunted Ground

BAY SHORE, N.Y. – Victory Pro Wrestling returned to Pro Game Sports on Saturday, Oct. 10, for Haunted Ground, where championship gold, personal grudges and future title opportunities collided. Anthony Gangone defended the VPW Championship against the unpredictable Azure in the night’s main event, but the threat posed by Gold Rush Rumble winner Rex Lawless loomed over the champion. With multiple rivalries escalating and championships on the line, the night promised consequences that would reach beyond Bay Shore.

Anthony Gangone Addresses His Challengers

VPW Champion Anthony Gangone opened Haunted Ground by declaring that his issues with Alvin Alvarez, also known as Black Diamond, were finished. He then congratulated Rex Lawless on winning the Gold Rush Rumble, acknowledging that the former New York State champion was coming for his title before calling out his scheduled challenger, Azure.

The lights went out, and Azure suddenly appeared, laughing at the champion before the arena went dark again. When the lights returned, Azure had vanished, leaving Gangone to promise a night of violence and a championship reign that would survive every challenge.

The Already Dead Jason Void and Franco Costanzo def. The Birdman and Sgt. Axel Ramos

The opening contest featured mind games before the first meaningful exchange, as Jason Void and Franco Costanzo repeatedly tagged each other while Sgt. Axel Ramos prepared to start for the opposing team. Costanzo eventually entered the match, but Ramos quickly gained the advantage with the crowd firmly behind him.

The Birdman made his official VPW debut to a positive reception, bringing fresh energy to the contest. Costanzo capitalized on a mistake by Ramos to tag in Void, who made his first VPW appearance and helped his partner take control against the smaller Ramos.

Void and Costanzo dominated until Ramos finally reached his corner for the hot tag. Birdman exploded into the match with fast-paced offense, swinging momentum toward his team, but Void’s calculated strategy took him out before he could capitalize fully. The Already Dead regained control and secured the victory, despite nearly allowing their competition over who would score the fall to cost them the match.

Rex Lawless def. ABBS

Rex Lawless entered Haunted Ground riding the momentum of his Gold Rush Rumble victory and wasted little time insulting ABBS, dismissing his opponent as a joke while mocking his physique. When the verbal attacks failed to rattle ABBS, Lawless turned to physical punishment, connecting with a big boot before wearing him down with ground-and-pound offense and targeted elbows in the corner.

Lawless continued to dictate the pace, using his size and strength to keep ABBS from building sustained momentum. A cannonball into the corner nearly ended the contest, but ABBS managed to kick out and demonstrate his toughness against the former New York State champion.

ABBS continued fighting, but Lawless remained firmly in control. The Main Attraction eventually put the contest away with a Tree Trunk Slam, adding another victory to his growing résumé as he continued positioning himself for a shot at Gangone’s VPW Championship.

Silk E. Smooth Addresses the Fans

The Manager of Champions, Silk E. Smooth, took the microphone to discuss the upcoming New York State Championship closed challenge match between David Graham and Mister Tibbs. Smooth acknowledged Tibbs’ decorated history in VPW, including his championship accomplishments and reputation as one of the promotion’s most established competitors.

Despite recognizing the threat posed by the veteran, Smooth insisted that Graham would emerge victorious. The segment established the stakes for the champion, who continued his pursuit of becoming one of the most prominent New York State champions in VPW history.

The Monster Kalypto def. Amiira Sahar by submission

The Monster Kalypto opened aggressively with a series of kicks, but Amiira Sahar countered with crisp technical wrestling to seize control early. The Desert Rose demonstrated her strength by suplexing the larger competitor and repeatedly frustrating Kalypto with her speed and technique.

Kalypto eventually caught Sahar during an attempted lucha arm drag off the ropes, turning the match in the Monster’s favor. Strikes and kicks followed, although Kalypto’s inexperience occasionally created openings for Sahar to exploit.

Sahar rallied and came close to securing the victory on multiple occasions, earning strong support from the crowd. She climbed to the top rope for a finishing frog splash, but Kalypto moved out of the way and immediately trapped her in a rear-naked choke, forcing the submission.

Kalypto refused to stop there, returning to attack Sahar after the bell. Several officials rushed to the ring to separate the Monster from the fallen competitor, leaving the confrontation far from settled.

Dylon Woodword vs. Mike Anthony Ends in a No-Contest

A bitter rivalry between Dylon Woodword and former VPW Champion Mike Anthony erupted before the opening bell, turning their scheduled contest into an all-out fight. Anthony went straight after Top 5 Dead of Alive as he entered the ring, and the battle quickly spilled to the floor, where the two continued trading attacks around the ringside area.

Referee Jason Fineberg struggled to restore order as neither competitor showed much interest in keeping the action inside the ring. Once Woodword forced Anthony back between the ropes, he took control with stomps, aggressive ground-and-pound offense and a series of attacks designed to keep the former champion down.

Anthony eventually rallied, but Woodword countered a bulldog attempt into the corner before the two resumed their back-and-forth battle. Anthony later connected with a bulldog from the top rope, yet neither man could put the other away.

The fight returned to the floor, where Fineberg counted both competitors out. Afterward, Woodword produced brass knuckles and headed toward the back, only to use the move as a diversion. When Anthony approached the curtain, Woodword was waiting and landed a loaded punch, escalating their feud beyond the official result.

Mister Tibbs def. New York State Champion David Graham in a Closed Challenge Match

The rules were straightforward: Anyone who pins New York State Champion David Graham or forced him to submit would earn a title opportunity. Mister Tibbs, VPW’s original gangster and a triple-crown champion, accepted the challenge against Graham, the King of New York, in a matchup between two generations of VPW competitors.

Tibbs controlled the opening exchanges, displaying the speed and intensity that had defined his career since his VPW debut 17 years earlier. He sent Graham to the floor and maintained the advantage, but Silk E. Smooth’s presence at ringside helped create an opening for the champion to strike from behind.

Graham began matching Tibbs move for move, mixing calculated kicks to the back and chest with the veteran’s own aggressive style. Tibbs answered with strong-style kicks and a series of signature attacks, but Graham repeatedly escaped defeat.

Tibbs attempted a double stomp, only for Graham to roll away and counter with a running knee. Smooth then distracted Tibbs during a potential superplex, allowing Graham to shove his opponent away before connecting with the double stomp and Psycho Knee.

Graham’s offense secured the pinfall, giving Tibbs the victory and a guaranteed opportunity to challenge for the New York State Championship at VPW Thanks for Everything on Nov. 8.

Tiphani Grady def. Amity LaVey to Reclaim the VPW Women’s Championship

The Temptatious Tiphani Grady entered Haunted Ground determined to become the first two-time VPW Women’s Champion since Kris Statlander in 2019, but reigning champion Amity LaVey stood between her and history. LaVey initially pursued a suplex, forcing Grady to retreat outside before the challenger returned and began searching for an opening.

Grady capitalized on a mistake to slow the pace and take control, earning approval from New York State Champion David Graham and Silk E. Smooth at ringside with a hip attack in the corner. LaVey fought back, and the two traded power moves, including a powerbomb attempt that ended with both competitors hitting a double clothesline.

The match took a chaotic turn when Kalypto appeared at ringside and Graham threw the women’s championship into the ring. LaVey and Grady raced for the belt, with the champion reaching it first, but her subsequent swing at Grady instead struck Kalypto.

As the referee attempted to restore order, Smooth tossed his cane into the ring. Grady used the distraction to knock out LaVey and secure the pinfall, reclaiming the championship.

The celebration was short-lived, as Kalypto attacked LaVey after the match and choked her out. Amiira Sahar rushed to the ring with a chair to even the odds, prompting LaVey to challenge Grady and Kalypto to a tag team match alongside her new ally. Kalypto accepted immediately, much to Grady’s visible displeasure.

Evil Kip def. Black Diamond

Black Diamond entered to chants of “We Want Alvin” from the crowd, but Evil Kip came prepared for a confrontation months in the making. The former VPW Champion had repeatedly taunted Kip from the commentary area over the summer, and Kip responded with an intensity that reflected their growing animosity.

Black Diamond eventually regained control with heavy strikes and methodical attacks, slowing the pace and keeping Kip from building momentum. Kip sent his opponent outside and followed with a diving attack, but appeared to injure his leg during the sequence.

Referee Alison Wright checked on Kip while Black Diamond stalked his injured opponent. Despite the official’s concerns, Kip insisted on continuing, allowing Black Diamond to target the leg and maintain control.

Kip fought back with an elbow and a double stomp from the second turnbuckle, although his mobility remained compromised. When Wright checked on Kip again, the self-proclaimed evil one seized the opportunity, delivering a low blow with a mule kick to steal the victory.

The result gave Kip a win in a heated rivalry, but the circumstances left questions about the condition of his leg and whether Black Diamond’s issues with him were finished.

ManteChica def. Security Inc. in a VPW Tag Team Championship Qualifier

ManteChica and Security Inc. battled for a place in the vacant VPW Tag Team Championship match at Disorderly Conduct in December. Security Inc. sought to reclaim the championships it previously held, while Clara Carreras and Mantequilla had an opportunity to make history by becoming champions together, with Carreras potentially becoming the first woman to hold VPW Tag Team Championship gold.

The lucha team started quickly, nearly ending the match before Officer Ronald Moses kicked out. The action spilled outside, where Moses attempted to evade Mantequilla but was caught by Guard Dog Malcolm Murray and driven into a pop-up powerbomb onto the ring apron.

Security Inc. seized control and isolated Mantequilla until he finally reached his partner. Carreras immediately confronted Murray, chasing him around the ring before connecting with a cannonball kick that sent him to the floor.

Inside the ring, Carreras traded offense with Moses before tagging Mantequilla back in. Their attempted double 619 was interrupted by Murray, and a vicious right hand shifted momentum back to Security Inc. Carreras broke up the subsequent pin, keeping her team alive.

Both teams scrambled for tags as the match reached its decisive moments. Moses attempted a pin on Carreras, but Fineberg ruled that she was not the legal competitor. Mantequilla capitalized on the confusion with a quick roll-up, securing the victory and sending ManteChica to Disorderly Conduct for a shot at the vacant championships.

Anthony Gangone def. Azure to Retain the VPW Championship

The main event began with the VPW Championship on the line and the unpredictable Azure determined to take the title from Anthony Gangone. Gangone sent his challenger to the floor with a clothesline, but Azure quickly dragged the champion outside and launched an assault around ringside.

Gangone eventually used the barricades to his advantage before returning to the ring, where Azure regained control and methodically attacked the champion. Gangone struggled to create separation as Azure maintained the pressure, but an error from the challenger gave the champion an opening to turn the tide.

Azure attempted to steal the advantage by grabbing Dr. Sleep’s mask and using it to imitate the masked figure’s signature mandible claw. Gangone escaped, but Azure continued mocking him by shoving the mask into his face and applying a sleeper hold that failed to finish the champion.

Gangone finally seized his opportunity, applying the mandible claw to put Azure to sleep and secure the pinfall. The champion retained his title, surviving another dangerous challenger.

The celebration ended when the lights went out and Gangone found himself alone in the ring. Lawless emerged from the crowd and attacked the exhausted champion, once again making his intentions clear by claiming the VPW Championship belonged to him.

Lawless attempted a Tree Trunk Slam, but Gangone countered with a low blow and tried to lock in the mandible claw. Lawless escaped to the floor, warning that it was only a matter of time before he claimed the championship, while Gangone fired back that Lawless did not get to dictate the terms of their confrontation.
