Are the Even Stevens true champions or were they just at the right place at the right time?

Fast and Furriest.

Cat and Cop Connection.

The Absolute Brand.

These are the last three teams to hold the Victory Pro Wrestling championships since the summer of 2018. They all have one thing in common.

They were all able to successfully defend the Victory Pro Wrestling tag team championships against the Even Stevens.

Stephen Azure and Steve Somerset continued to stay in the top rung of the VPW Tag Team division, despite able to pick up wins when it counted.

At Homecoming in July, they had one last shot to rise to the top in front of the first live audience on Long Island since VPW’s Blood Sweat and 14 Years. In the new home of Victory Pro Wrestling. Against a team that lost the momentum they had after winning the championships in January 2020.

After the loss, they went to the back of the line. New teams popped up.

The Insane Rockerz.

Shook Crew.

The Coffee Lovers.

All of a sudden, the playing field filled up and the chance to not become top contenders again was a reality.

Somerset and Azure had to adapt.

In a triple threat match, the Even Stevens stole the win against Shook Crew and the Coffee Lovers, putting them right back into the hunt. They challenged the champions, who accepted.

With the set stage at Disorderly Conduct in November, the Even Stevens had one last chance to prove they were truly the best tag team in Victory Pro Wrestling. The crack in the armor of the Absolute Brand had already been revealed – Silk E Smooth had intervened in a prior match and angered the Giant Andre in the process.

This time, Smooth could not resist and a miscue caused the Absolute Brand to lose the titles to Somerset and Azure. For the first time, the Even Stevens held championship gold.

What happened next is important. Alvin Alvarez fired Silk E Smooth. Giant Andre made Alvin choose – chance to regain the titles, or stick with Smooth and lose Andre as a partner.

Now at Devastation in December, the Absolute Brand will have a chance to regain the titles. They will have a chance to do so without the distraction of Silk E Smooth. With the focus of 2019, the drive and determination to become champions or leave forever.

They may join The Eclipse and the Down Boyz in the coveted multi-time tag team championship club (Eclipse are the only team to hold the titles three times) and even give the Even Stevens a spot in the record books – shortest reign as tag team champions.

It is rare in sports to see champions as underdogs, but at Devastation, that is exactly where the Even Stevens are. The Absolute Brand want their belts back and will do anything to get them.

What will happen when Victory Pro Wrestling returns to St James December 18th for Devastation?
