BAY SHORE, N.Y. — The Rex Lawless Open Challenge has become one of the most dangerous opportunities in Victory Pro Wrestling. At VPW TWENTY: Blood Sweat and 20 Years on Saturday, April 18 in Bay Shore, another challenger is stepping forward with something to prove.

New York State Champion Rex Lawless has built his reign on competition. Since capturing the championship in 2025, Lawless has repeatedly put the title on the line in open challenges, daring anyone in the locker room to test themselves against him.

So far, no one has been able to stop him.

Lawless has defended the championship against a wide range of challengers, defeating Zakk Ramses, Georgio Lawrence, Evil Kip, Bobby Casale, Franco Costanzo, Mike Zee and Sebastian Amor. Each defense has reinforced his reputation as one of the most resilient champions in VPW today. Whether facing technical specialists, powerhouses or high flyers, Lawless has found a way to keep the championship around his waist.

Now the next challenger has emerged.

Bobby Buffet has officially answered the open challenge, bringing with him a story of resilience and determination. A former Monster Factory champion, Buffet is known for his powerful style and intimidating presence inside the ring. However, his journey back to this moment has not been easy.

Buffet spent more than a year on the sidelines recovering from a torn ACL, an injury that threatened to halt his momentum just as his career was gaining traction. The long rehabilitation process kept him away from the ring, but it also fueled his determination to return stronger.

That return became reality during the recent King of New York tournament, where Buffet quickly reminded fans why he is considered such a dangerous competitor. His dominant performance in the tournament showed that the time away had not diminished his intensity.

Now Buffet has his sights set on championship gold.

For Lawless, the open challenge has always been about proving he is the best competitor in the state. “Any time, anywhere, anyone,” has been his mantra after every match.

For Buffet, this opportunity represents a chance to complete his comeback story in dramatic fashion.

At VPW TWENTY, the question becomes simple. Can Bobby Buffet feast on opportunity, or will Rex Lawless once again turn away another challenger?

What will happen when VPW presents VPW TWENTY on Saturday night, April 18?
