The King of New York returns to Victory Pro Wrestling in February 2025, reviving one of the most storied traditions in the company’s history. Since its inception in 2011, the King of New York has stood as a proving ground for ambition, endurance, and legacy. Thirteen tournaments have crowned a King, with each winner carving a unique chapter into VPW history.

Eric James, then known as EJ Risk, set the standard by winning the first two King of New York tournaments, the only competitor to capture back to back crowns. Jay Delta later defined an era of his own, winning three tournaments, although Eric James ultimately claimed a third crown by defeating Delta in a ladder match in 2016. Kai Katana is the only other repeat winner, first in 2015 and again in 2018 under the name Kyler Khan. Nearly every King has gone on to championship success in VPW, with Stockade standing alone as the lone exception.

In 2026, the tournament takes on a new wrinkle. The King of New York will be decided through a Beat the Clock challenge, with the two fastest victories advancing to the main event finals. The winner will earn the crown and a future opportunity at the VPW New York State Championship, currently held by Rex Lawless.

This year’s field is a collision of experience and hunger. Leo Sparrow enters as one of the most decorated competitors in the tournament, a former VPW Champion and New York State Champion who understands exactly what the crown represents. Bobby Buffet returns with something to prove after his momentum was halted by injury, making this tournament a chance at redemption. David Graham brings a smash mouth approach and veteran mindset as he enters his second year in VPW, relying on grit over flash.

The Artist Formerly Known as Dash thrives on reinvention and unpredictability, qualities that could serve him well in a race against the clock. Stan Michael, the King of Rhythm and Beatdown, blends personality with punishment, capable of ending a match in an instant if his timing is right. Azure looks to separate himself from the past and establish his own identity, knowing a King of New York win would redefine his future.

The Specialist Georgio Lawrence remains young, hungry, and desperate for his first VPW victory, while Brother Greatness sees the crown as a direct path toward the New York State Championship and the fulfillment of his calling.

With speed, strategy, and pressure all in play, the 2025 King of New York promises not just a winner, but the next chapter in VPW history.

What will happen when Victory Pro Wrestling kicks off the new year with the King of New York on Saturday night, February 14?
